Hey all — I’d love to understand more about this.
From my point of view, the app’s designed just for picking and packing — not managing orders or product data. If there’s missing info, it seems like something that should be fixed either upstream (e.g. in Shopify) or in the Starshipit web app where there’s full editing access.
Letting packers change things like colour or size on the fly feels a bit risky — they’d need to know exactly what to update and why, and that could cause more confusion or errors. Happy to be wrong — just trying to understand the use case :)

Alex I would agree with packers changing things, from a data integrity/security standpoint, this poses risks. I would be interested to know if it is possible to utilise RBAC and the user permission structure that is already implemented to allow access to this through the app. Only people with the products permission can change as it is on web right now.
I will agree with Ruby's statement overall though, it would be very nice to be able to add, edit, remove products on the app. For us specifically, we are a small warehouse so not too far to go to a computer but I can imagine for a larger warehouse, you'd be walking 5-15 minutes just for a simple update that could be done there and then, right in front of the product. Myself, I have found it annoying not being able to update on the spot if there is incorrect or outdated data, particularly during peak times. (Side note, importing orders on the app would also be tremendously beneficial in my opinion). Also knowledge from the industry is a lot of warehouses are transitioning to headless setups, which means no computers and just a scanner/rf gun and a desktop/mobile printer. We will also be adopting this layout in the next 2 years. The ability to perform data manipulation on the go (with RBAC) will help ensure starshipit maintains a competitive feature offering as mobile working is the future.
I would also take this opportunity to point out that the product catalogue is only accessible through settings in UI 1, however through UI 2, we have found that child accounts, specifically Multi-workstation type, can access products through the side menu. We are unsure if this is intentional or not, luckily I have started training people on the correct process of the catalogue.
Happy for you to email me for further discussion. I have a lot of other improvements in mind.

Hi Ruby Peacock,
I'd be keen to dig into this use case a bit more. I've flicked you an email to discuss further :)
